What does HRP&O mean?

HRP&O stands for Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled

This is the type of steel we commonly use in our fenders and trailer steps. Hot Rolled refers to the process by which the steel is made. It is heated up and then rolled to the gauge thickness for that sheet. Pickled and Oiled is acid pickling that removes mill oxide (from the hot rolled process), which improves the surface appearance, uniformity of the material and finishing quality. Do to this process after cleaning, paint and enamel adhere to the material very well.

How do I care for my Polished Stainless Steel Fenders?

DO NOT! I repeat DO NOT! use any type of abrasive cleaner on Stainless Steel Fenders. This will scratch the fender.

Wash your Stainless Steel Fenders with a mild automotive car wash soap. Dry them with a micro fiber towel or a soft cotten towel (Double check the towel has nothing on it that will scratch the fender). When a scratch does happen, you can repolish that spot with an automotive stainless steel polish.

How is a fender made?

The following steps are how a fender is made.

  • Material cut to size (Fender Blank)

What is the difference between a double radius and a flat back edge style?

Double Radius

A double radius edge means the fender has a radiused edge (lip) on each side of its width (see the picture above). For the trailer fenders and big rig lift axle fenders the edge is 13/8” tall when finished. For the other big rig fenders the edge is 2” tall when finished. Only flat top fenders have the more than one option in edge styles. All others are a double radius edge style. This is why in our part numbers that if there is no edge finish listed it is assumed that the fender is a double radius edge style.
Flat Back (Single Radius)

A flat back (single radius) edge means the fender has a radiused edge (lip) and a 90° edge on each side of its width (see the picture above). The radiused edge is 1 1/2” tall when finished. The flat back side is 3/4” tall and is a good means to mount either the fender to the side of a trailer or to mount a fender back to it. The flat back style is only available for a flat top style fender.

Do you carry chrome fenders?

We do not carry or manufacturer chrome fenders.

There are a few reasons why we do not manufacturer chrome fenders. Here are some of the reasons why.

  • The trailer manufacturers we supply have switched to Polished Stainless Steel as a standard over chrome.
  • Chrome can flake, peel, bubble, and rust. Polished Stainless Steel does not.
  • Chrome can not be refinished easily. Polished Stainless Steel can be repolished.

We recommend Polished Stainless Steel fenders because there cost of upkeep is low. Yes potentially the chrome fenders will be cheaper to purchase, but they will not last as long as a Polished Stainless Steel fender will. If you do decide to have a fender chromed, remember to take it to a quality chromer. All metal must be preped to be chromed. If someone tells you different take it somewhere else.

The advantages of Polished Stainless Steel Fenders far outways the cost. This is why we recommend them so strongly.
